God's Love

First I am going to ask a simple question. What is love? When asked people answered with things like a lifetime commitment, crazy happiness, a puppy with a wet nose, not always easy, but comfortable, unconditional, and sacrifice. While all these are true the Webster definition is head on. Love is a strong affection for another; warm attachment, enthusiasm, devotion; unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another. I know of only one person who fits this description of love, one who never wavers in his love for us. God.

Every Christian has heard John 3:16 "For God so loved the world he sent his only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life." Sure we've all heard it, read it, and most have it memorized, but how many of us have really thought about it. I'm not a mom yet, but I am an aunt. I can't imagine sending one of my nieces or nephews to die for a bunch of sinners. God knew from the beginning that not everyone would accept him and care for his sacrifice, but he did it anyways. That's what I call unselfish love.

Have you ever thought about how the Parable of the Lost Son applies to us and God?
"But while he was still a long way away, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him."
Luke 15:20
No matter what we do God forgives us if we just ask. Just like the father we,comes his son God is waiting for us with compassion and open arms.

"Know therefore that the Lord you God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generation of those who love him and keep his commands." Deuteronomy 7:9
God promises his love to us generation after generation. This should make you feel loved. God promises us love even when no one else does.

"The Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God." John 16:27
We are told that God loves us because we love and believe in him.

Read Isaiah 43:1-7. Incredible right? A few things stick out to me. In verse 2 God promises that because he loves us he will protect us. In verse 4 God bluntly says I love you. You the one readings these words.

God loves us all! No matter what we do God loves us unconditionally and is waiting for us to tell him we love him too.
